Treehopper Vibes

Some of the most complex and musical sounds made by insects are neither sung nor stridulated, but created as the bug beats his abdomen against a surface, often the stalk of the plant on which he lives.

With a device called a laser vibrometer, entomologist Rex Cocroft has figured out how to accurately record treehopper vibrations and turn them into sound:
